An Auxvasse alderman, George E. (Trey) Baumgartner, 30, was arrested Friday on a charge of distribution of methamphetamine.

Auxvasse Mayor Kevin Phares said Saturday he is aware of the arrest of the alderman on drug charges.

"I have discussed the situation with other members of the board of aldermen and at this point we have nothing further to say," Phares said.

Baumgartner was released from Callaway County Jail after posting a $15,000 bond.

Efforts to contact Baumgartner Saturday were unsuccessful.

Callaway County Sheriff's Office deputies and members of the MUSTANG drug task force performed a narcotics search warrant at 1:53 a.m. Friday at 508 South Elm St.

The Sheriff's Office reported the search warrant was issued as a result of a narcotics investigation on the use and possession of narcotics and sales of a controlled substance to an undercover law enforcement officer.

Baumgartner faces charges of distributing methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
