OSAGE BEACH - For the Fulton Hornets soccer team, it was the wrong time to come out on the wrong end of an identical outcome against the Helias Crusaders.
Senior midfielder Kyle Dorge accounted for both of Helias' goals and the second-seeded Crusaders clipped No. 1 Fulton 2-1 to capture the Class 2, District 11 championship Thursday night.
With the win, Helias avenged a 2-1 loss to the Hornets on Oct. 15 in Jefferson City. The Crusaders (18-6-2) will host a Class 2 sectional on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Fulton ended its first season under head coach Brad Oestreich with a 17-7 record. The Hornets shared their first-ever North Central Missouri Conference title and put together a 10-game winning streak that fell one shy of the school record.
"Of course we wanted to win (the district championship), but I couldn't be more happy for what these boys did this season," Oestreich said.
