T-Birds sink Eagles in shootout

KINGDOM CITY - There were almost as many onside kick recoveries as defensive stops in Wednesday night's Class 3 regional playoff game between the North Callaway Thunderbirds and the Orchard Farm Eagles.

That should tell you all you need to know about just how much offense meant to this game. The Thunderbirds scored on their first six possessions in a 54-35 shootout victory over the Eagles.

North Callaway will host the Southern Boone Eagles in the sectional round next Monday night. Southern Boone -which lost to the Thunderbirds 38-32 in double overtime for the district title - beat Bowling Green 38-33 in regional play Wednesday night.

North Callaway (7-4) needed just 1 minute, 41 seconds on its first possession to hit the scoreboard. After forcing an Orchard Farm punt on the opening drive, Thunderbirds junior tailback Jacob Kee capped off a 66-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown run off right guard to put North Callaway up 7-0 with 7 minutes left.
