Owls split opening NAIA games

The William Woods University baseball team's debut Thursday at the NAIA national tournament started off nicely and almost ended with a pleasant surprise.

No. 4 seed William Woods led top-seeded LSU-Shreveport 5-2 on Thursday night before sophomore shortstop Manny Estrada cracked a three-run home run and senior third baseman Shawn Moy added a two-run shot to power the Pilots' seven-run outburst in the top of the fifth inning in a 10-5 victory.

Earlier Thursday, senior pitcher Logan Lawson threw a complete game and struck out eight as William Woods benefitted from three errors by No. 5 seed Huntington (Ind.) University in the Owls' 7-1 victory.
