Sophomore pitcher Greg Bedsworth pitched five innings and gave up one earned run in the New Bloomfield Wildcats' 8-2 win over the South Callaway Bulldogs on Friday night in Mokane. The right-hander gave up just two hits and struck out four batters in upping his record to 5-1 on the season.
"He's been the healthiest of our pitchers this year and is our work horse," New Bloomfield head coach Brandon Talbot said. "Coming down the stretch, he's been getting stronger and that's saying something for a sophomore."
New Bloomfield (10-4) led 3-1 in the fifth inning when senior first baseman Zach Rehagen sent a pitch from South Callaway junior Hunter Leeper over the center field fence for a three-run home run. Rehagen finished the game 1-for-3 with four RBI. Junior center fielder Brendon Bailey added another RBI with a sixth inning single and senior left fielder Aaron Bedsworth was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Bedsworth upped his season average to a team-leading .441.
