Few things invoke thoughts of the Fourth of July like the boom and flash of fireworks.
For the first time this year, Fulton residents can buy those patriotic explosives - and set them off - within city limits, thanks to an ordinance passed in August 2010.
The city council allowed residents to shoot off fireworks last year when they first started discussing the question of fireworks within the confines of the city, but this is the first year the new ordinance is in effect.
Sales of fireworks are now allowed in Fulton from June 20 through July 10 and Dec. 20-Jan. 2. Residents are allowed to set off consumer fireworks from 1-11 p.m. July 3-5 and from 11 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
