Two new replacement bridges are under construction this summer by the Callaway County Road and Bridge Department.

One new bridge is six miles east of Auxvasse on County Road 1011 and the other is two miles east of New Bloomfield on County Road 436.

Paul Winkelmann, county highway administrator, said Callaway County Road and Bridge Department crews expect to complete work next week on a new 70-foot bridge over Bachelor Creek along County Road 1011 about six miles east of Auxvasse.

"We started work on it in the middle of June and we have made good progress," Winkelmann said. The single-span bridge replaced a narrow-truss bridge that had a 12-ton load limit. It was a deficient bridge and is being replaced with a bridge that meets federal standards.
