Maylee triple homicide trial moved to Boone

The triple homicide trial of Joshua Maylee of Holts Summit has been shifted from Callaway County to Boone County.

During a pretrial conference Monday in Callaway County Circuit Court, Circuit Judge Kevin Crane approved a motion by public defender Donald Catlett for the change of venue.

In counties like Callaway with less than 75,000 population, the defense can ask for a change of venue by right and the trial normally shifts to another county within the circuit.

But Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson still opposed the transfer to Boone County, contending it would be inconvenient because most of the family of the victims live in Callaway, along with witnesses in the case.
