New Missouri Department of Conservation regulations for the 2011-12 deer hunting season have been approved.

Todd Houf, Callaway County Conservation agent, said an archery season will be held again inside the city of Fulton from Sept. 15 to Jan. 15. The archery hunting is permitted only in designated areas of the city.

"Callaway County offers excellent deer hunting. Every year Callaway County ranks in the top five counties in the state in the number of deer taken during the deer firearms season," Houf said.

Hough said the deer population in Callaway County is plentiful and stable. "The only area of the county where the deer population is down slightly is in the Williamsburg area. Some deer there have been hit with EHD disease," Hough said.
