Mokane threatens to end service to residents with delinquent bills

Pay up or be cut off.

That's the message the Mokane City Council and the Mokane Water Cooperative have sent to almost a dozen Mokane residents who have delinquent sewer and water bills.

Dee Pfeiffer, Mokane city clerk, said members of the Mokane City Council and the Mokane Water Cooperative have learned that valves in manholes are available to shut off water service to some of the delinquent customers.

"Many times people will tell us they want to pay up. They will send us maybe one payment and then stop. Some of them have hundreds of dollars in delinquencies," Pfeiffer said.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
