After almost 40 years of service - and countless french fry, hamburger and milkshake orders - the McDonald's at 303 South Business 54 will get a little facelift. The building, owned by Jefferson City's 54 Foods Incorporated will temporarily shut its doors for some renovations at the end of this year with the goal of upping sales.
Jim Baumgartner, owner of 54 Foods, wanted to hold off on the rebuild for a couple of years but found that, fiscally, it made more sense to shut down and reopen shop sooner rather than later.
"The company (McDonald's) feels that there are too many problems with a 40-year-old store and that they wouldn't want to franchise a building that old," Baumgartner said. "Typically when a new store is built, sales increase pretty well."
