Though school was canceled Thursday, the North Callaway School Board still held a brief session Thursday evening.
Sandy Lavy, board secretary, said the regular meeting was conducted in a shorter time so everyone could get home safely due to inclement weather. After the regular meeting was conducted, a private session was held. No comment was made on what was discussed in the executive session.
Superintendent Bryan Thomsen said the district is restricted on what can be said in reference to an accident involving the death of 6-year-old Hunter Pitt, a Williamsburg Elementary student. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Tuesday's accident where a North Callaway bus struck the student resulted in Pitt's death. The bus driver was identified as Willie Leonberger, 77.
Thomsen said since the incident is still under investigation, the district is guarded on what can be said about the accident.
"We're just asking that people keep the family and everyone involved in their prayers as we move through these tough times," he said.
During the board meeting, an update of the district's bond issue was given. The possible future parking lot that was discussed at the last board meeting - to be built at the ball field at Auxvasse Elementary - Thomsen said will be put on hold for now until the other planned bond work is finished.
Thomsen also said the heating and air system renovations are still underway and should be completed by early spring. He added that the heating and air work at Williamsburg and Hatton Elementary schools is almost complete, crews are currently working on Auxvasse Elementary and then they will move on to the high school.
