Fulton accident leads to arrest

January 17th, 2011 in News

An accident that tied up traffic in Fulton Thursday afternoon resulted in the arrest of one of the drivers involved in the collision.

According to Lt. Lyla Robbins with the Fulton Police Department, Nicki Bernicky, 26, of Fulton, was taken into custody for driving without a license, as well as on a Callaway County warrant for failure to appear on a previous traffic offense after she struck another vehicle traveling southbound on Bluff Street in front of Moser's at 3:54 p.m.

"Basically, vehicle No. 1 (driven by Jamison Riley, 39, of Fulton) was waived on by another stopped vehicle to move out of the Walgreens parking lot and travel south on Bluff, and was struck by another vehicle in the center lane," said FPD Officer Kyle Townley, who responded to the scene. "The driver of vehicle No. 2 was arrested on driving while revoked, and on a Callaway County warrant."

Although Bernicky and her passengers - Peggy Thomas, 53, and an 8-year-old child - were transported to Callaway Community Hospital with moderate injuries, Robbins said the combination of multiple emergency response vehicles, busy traffic and cramped space made the accident "look worse than it was."

"It was in a bad spot at a bad time of day," Robbins said.

Bernicky was taken from the scene to the Callaway County Jail, where she bonded out later that night.
