The Fulton Lady Hornets committed almost as many turnovers (31) as shots attempted (33) in Thursday night's 72-40 loss to Kansas City Central in the consolation semifinals of the 17th-annual California Tournament.
"That says a lot right there," Fulton head coach Jenny Preiss said. "That was the story of the night. (Kansas City Central) was fast and anticipated everything we did."
The No. 5 seed Lady Hornets (5-7) found themselves down 22-7 after one quarter at California Middle School and trailed 40-16 at halftime.
Junior guard Corri Hamilton was responsible for the majority of Fulton's offensive output, connecting for 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting. Hamilton also pulled down 12 rebounds.
Brittany Silas matched Hamilton's feat, tallying 28 points to direct three players in double figures for No. 8 seed Kansas City Central. Tonyae Curry and Danielle Randle supplied 12 points apiece.
The Lady Hornets will face either No. 6 Boonville or No. 7 Southern Boone for seventh place at 4:30 this afternoon at California Middle School.

MOKANE - The No. 6 seed Thunderbirds committed 17 of their 29 turnovers in the first half of Thursday night's first-round loss to the No. 3 Bulldogs at the South Callaway Tournament.
North Callaway fell behind 20-8 after one quarter at South Callaway Middle School and was down 46-24 at the half. The Thunderbirds trailed 66-45 to open the fourth quarter.
"It showed that we hadn't been in the gym for a long time," North Callaway head coach Tim Turlington said.
Senior forward Andrew Attebery finished with a game-high 21 points and collected a team-high eight rebounds to pace the Thunderbirds (2-8). Junior guard Zack Lavy contributed nine points.
Tyler Hudlow answered with 20 points to direct four players in double figures for Harrisburg (4-5). Tyler Rasmussen was next with 14 points, while Gavin Jones and Eric Penton both chipped in with 12.
North Callaway goes up against either No. 2 Hermann or No. 7 Russellville in the consolation semifinals at 5:30 this afternoon at the middle school.

MOKANE - The No. 6 seed Ladybirds were unable to recover from a 37-17 halftime deficit Thursday night and bowed to the No. 3 Lady Indians in the first round of the South Callaway Tournament.
North Callaway outscored Russellville 36-28 in the second half at South Callaway Middle School, but was unable to make up for its early hardships.
"Not to make excuses, but we hadn't been in the gym since last Friday," Ladybirds head coach Jack Peace said. "We were very rusty and a little slow, and (Russellville) capitalized on that.
"In the second half we played much better. Night in and night out, if we can do that for four quarters we'll get where we want to be."
Freshman forward Maddie Sorell scored nine of her 17 points in the third quarter to guide North Callaway (2-7). Junior guard Jordan Gray was next with 12 points and her sister, freshman guard Jaida Gray, provided 10.
Amber Duncan hit a game-high 25 points to lead the Lady Indians (8-6). Kaitlynn Siebert also tallied 17 points and Nicole Martin supplied 13.
The Ladybirds will match up against No. 7 Montgomery County in a consolation semifinal at 8:30 tonight at the middle school.

Kegan Lee and Xavier Hamilton combined for 49 points in the Hornets' 12-point triumph over the Warriors on Thursday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.
Lee connected for 27 points to power Fulton (4-6), which extended a 36-25 halftime lead to 57-42 entering the fourth quarter. Hamilton also put up 22 points and Dontay Vaughn had 13.
"Our offense was working really well," Hornets coach Chris Daily said. "Kegan and Xavier were able to drive the lane and we were getting some rebounds and putting them back in."
Fulton plays at Jeff Junior in Columbia at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Sam Christensen responded with 16 points and 14 rebounds Thursday night to help trigger the host Hornets' demolition of the Indians.
De'Areyon Estes followed with 10 points for Fulton Middle School, which evened its season record at 6-6. Kalin Mitchell also tallied eight points.
The Hornets square off against West Junior at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Centralia Tournament.
