Cole County Judge Jon Beetem sentenced a Fulton man Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to the robbery of a Checker Cab driver in April 2010.
David Marquiece S. Humes, 21, was charged with second-degree robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon.
According to court records, Humes rode with the cab company to a local hospital and then back to a residence at 2725 Schott Road, where he was staying. It was then that he pulled a sawed-off shotgun out of a bag he was carrying and demanded the cab driver hand over money and then a cell phone.
The Cole County Sheriff's office was dispatched and, with the aid of the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Jefferson City Police Department, apprehended Humes in the apartment at Schott Road.
According to the probable cause statement, two other residents of the apartment gave deputies permission to search the apartment after verifying that Humes had been staying there.
Deputies found Humes in the bathroom of the residence.
Upon further search, deputies found a 12-gauge, sawed-off shotgun in the drop ceiling. They also recovered a red shirt, cell phone, black hooded jacket, backpack and other items. Cash was also recovered near the suspect.
