Attempted burglary at Finally Tammy's foiled by owners

Finally Tammy's employees and family members were having a quiet New Year's Eve party Friday night in the banquet room when something went awry.

"We had the lights to the dining room off," owner Tammy Manion said. "Then we heard the glass to the back door break. My cousin heard it, looked at me and said "did you hear that?' My husband Jeff went back to the door and grabbed the wood that we keep over the door and the next thing I heard was him yelling and my husband took off running after the kids."

Manion said the two suspects broke the window to the back door, which shattered glass into the allyway behind the Court Street restaurant.

"Jeff caught one of them, but he ended up getting away," Manion said.

Manion's husband Jeff said that he caught the boy just past Post Office Bar and Grill before the suspect got loose and kept running.

The other suspect, Derek B. Marsh, 18, of Fulton, was found in a closet at a residence on Pioneer Drive, according to Fulton Police.

"The bad thing for us is that we know these kids," Manion said. "Their mother worked here as a cook until last night. They've been in here before. This place is not new to them."

Manion said after the incident, she felt like she had to fire the cook.

"I can't afford to keep her here," she said. "This isn't the first time a family member of hers has caused problems here before."

The burglary attempt happened around 9 p.m. Friday.

Marsh is in the Callaway County Jail on suspicion of first degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. His bond is $29,500. The second suspect, still unapprehended, is wanted for first degree burglary and property damage. He is described as a white male.

Manion and her husband took over the restaurant last February. It was previously known as Mom's.

Manion said she was just happy that nothing was taken.

"Thank God we were here," she said. "That's all I can say."
