No. 18 Lady Owls down Mo. Baptist

Senior forward Rachel Baker put up 20 points Thursday night to help spark the No. 18 William Woods University Lady Owls to an 82-68 AMC win over Missouri Baptist University at Anderson Arena.

Baker - who also handed out a game-high seven assists - was one of four players to reach double figures for William Woods (27-2, 14-1 American Midwest Conference).

Senior guard Jill Sutton and junior center Miranda Loesch also supplied 14 points apiece for the Lady Owls, while senior forward Jestine Gerber had 10. William Woods shot 42 percent (25-of-59) as a team.

Loesch also collected a team-high nine rebounds as the Lady Owls were outrebounded 42-35.

Alexis Rhoades countered with a game-high 24 points for Missouri Baptist (14-12, 9-6). Andrea Seabaugh added 14 points and Chelsea Prosser finished with 10.

William Woods has won six in a row since losing at home to AMC rival Columbia College 71-55 on Jan. 29.

The Lady Owls will get a chance to redeem themselves when they close out the regular season against the No. 15 Lady Cougars at 2 p.m. Saturday in Columbia.

ELDON - The No. 4 seed Hornets fell behind 12-0 at the outset and were unable to catch the top-seeded Crusaders in Wednesday night's semifinals of the Class 4, District 10 Tournament.

Trailing by 17 points, Fulton opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to close within 20-11. However, Helias answered with a 9-4 run to finish the period and went into halftime with a 29-15 advantage.

The Crusaders then outscored the Hornets 17-8 in the third quarter to widen their lead to 46-23 going into the final 8 minutes of play.

Junior forward Nick Seelinger and sophomore guard Deon Galbreath tallied six points apiece to pace Fulton, which completed its season with a 12-12 record. Senior guards Anthony Porter and Derek Musgrove both contributed five points.

Zach Rockers delivered a game-high 20 points to direct three players in double figures for Helias (18-7), which also rolled to a 64-36 win over the Hornets on Jan. 21 in Jefferson City.

Dean Wiley added 12 points for the Crusaders on Wednesday night and Dylan Gish provided 11.

Helias will face Eldon for the District 10 title tonight. The Mustangs advanced with a 53-49 victory over Boonville in Wednesday night's other semifinal.

Ladybirds reschedule

game against Harrisburg

KINGDOM CITY - The North Callaway Ladybirds' Mid-Missouri Conference home matchup against state-ranked Harrisburg, postponed Thursday night because of the weather, will be made up on Saturday.

The junior varsity game will be played first at 5 p.m. North Callaway will be looking to avenge an 82-34 loss at Harrisburg - ranked No. 1 in Class 2 - on Feb. 7.

Meanwhile, the Ladybirds play at Wellsville at 6 tonight.

Correction

It was incorrectly reported in Thursday's edition that the No. 5 seed New Bloomfield Wildcats' first-round game against No. 4 Paris (6 p.m. Tuesday) in the Class 2, District 5 Tournament will be played at Paris. The District 5 Tournament is being hosted by Louisiana.
