Because of a nationwide computer upgrade, Missourians and many other Americans throughout the nation won't be able to get driver licenses or driver permits this Saturday nor on Monday, Feb. 21.
The Fulton license bureau, which is located at 354 Country Meadows Lane near the intersection of U.S. 54 and Route F, will be closed on both days. Some of the other license bureaus throughout the state will remain open on those days for all other motor vehicle transactions such as renewing license plates, obtaining motor vehicle titles, and paying sales taxes on vehicle purchases.
The problem with issuing driver licenses and driver permits on next Saturday and Monday is caused by a upgrade of the national driver license information system operated by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.
The nationwide computer system is used to make sure that persons applying for new and renewed commercial and noncommercial driver licenses do not have any out-of-state driving violations, suspensions or revocations.
Because the system will be unavailable during the computer upgrade, new driver license and renewed driver license applications cannot be processed on either date.
Most of Missouri's motor vehicle license offices will be closed on Feb. 19 and Feb. 21 for reasons unrelated to the computer upgrade. Feb. 19 falls on a Saturday when many Missouri license fee offices are normally closed and Feb. 21 is President's Day, which is a state holiday.
