Keeping with the county's push to welcome a special Smithsonian Institution work exhibit to the community in February, the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce's banquet will be honoring long-standing, area businesses.
The Way We Worked Annual Chamber Banquet will be held at a new location this year and invite representatives from 39 county businesses to be recognized for their years of service to the community. The 88th annual banquet kicks off at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.
Nancy Lewis, chamber executive director, said the banquet's theme was set to reflect The Way We Worked and The Kingdom at Work exhibits that will open at the National Churchill Museum on Feb. 11. Those businesses - which are also chamber members - that have served Callaway for 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 years will be honored during the banquet.
"We have lots of old pictures from the businesses," Lewis said. "They've been sending us their historical photos ... It'll be lots of fun to really view the history of some of the businesses."
