"Boot Camp' offered on Medicare choices

Residents nearing 65 targeted for seminar

Callaway County residents nearing age 65 and retirement will have an opportunity on Jan. 12 to learn what they need to know about signing up for various Medicare choices.

Two sessions of a free two-hour seminar, known as Medicare Boot Camp, will be offered on Thursday, Jan. 12, in the afternoon and evening. Sessions will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and again from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Callaway Electric Cooperative, which is located at the Route H exit on U.S. 54 in Fulton.

The free Medicare Boot Camp will be offered by the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging (CMAAA), which serves Callaway and 18 other Mid-Missouri counties.

"This is the first time we have offered this Medicare workshop in Fulton. We have presented it in other Central Missouri counties and the response has been extremely favorable. We are targeting people just entering Medicare eligibility. They have a lot of complicated choices to make and they desperately need this information. This gives them an opportunity to expand their knowledge of Medicare," said Kay Barbee, who offers the seminar for CMAAA.

"We will thoroughly discuss the many choices each person on Medicare must make. We will discuss Medicare Parts A, B, C and D as well as Medicare Advantage plans and supplemental insurance," Barbee said.
