SoCal school board talks maintenance

MOKANE - School maintenance was one of the main topics at the South Callaway Board of Education meeting Wednesday night.

Board members discussed how best to repair the back parking lot of the Early Childhood Learning Center. Superintendent Mary Lynn Battles said the lot has suffered "considerable deterioration." Although it was determined that using concrete for the lot instead of asphalt would cost about $80,000 more, members decided to go with concrete for longevity.

"We're wanting to put in a material that will give us the longest service and reliability," Battles said.

The district hasn't started receiving bids for the project yet, Battles continued, but it's looking at the lot costing about $350,000.
