NoCal district to purchase new bus

KINGDOM CITY - North Callaway voted to purchase a new school bus Thursday evening to replace a bus that was totaled in a collision last month.

During the regular North Callaway Board of Education meeting, members gave permission for Superintendent Bryan Thomsen to obtain the new bus at a cost of about $79,500. The new bus will replace the wrecked one that was involved in an accident Nov. 8 with an SUV on the crossover of Highway 54 at the intersection of County Road 210.

Thomsen said the district will receive $48,000 in insurance money, but the remainder of the $79,500 will come out of budget funds, possibly through a lease purchase.

As discussed in previous meetings, the board decided to update its policy regarding communication with students via electronic media. The policy update reflects changes passed in the last state legislation session.
