For the first time, Fulton will have a Senior Expo on Jan. 19 to showcase information and services available to older adults in Callaway County.

The new event expands on a similar Strategies for Aging event last Aug. 18 at the Callaway Senior Center.

The Senior Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Callaway County YMCA, 1715 Wood St., in Fulton.

In addition to speakers and seminars, the Senior Expo will have booths from vendors to showcase products and services offered to older adults in Callaway County.

"We already have about 40 booths lined up. They include everything from medical equipment to foot-care services," said organizer Mary Gordon, director of the TEAM RSVP, 55&GO volunteer program offered by SERVE, Inc.

Gordon said a $50 donation per booth is requested at the time of registration. She said the donation will be used to support senior volunteers with transportation expenses, home repair projects and volunteer recognition.

"This Senior Expo is available to all Callaway County older adults. We also have incorporated some wonderful entertainment that will be performing throughout the day," Gordon said.

Entertainment, performances and displays include Hazel Kinder of Lighthouse Theater, the YMCA Senior Sneakers exercise group, Katie Bayer and her parrots, and Fulton Public Schools youth drawings about service to others.

The goal of the Expo is to give Callaway County older adults the ability to find, network and explore many options that can improve their lives.

Booths will offer give-a-ways and information on products and services available to older adults.

Seniors will learn about health, nutrition, legal issues, housing, available government programs, Medicare, disability, social networking and much more.
