Spencer Coffman, a 63-year-old Fulton resident, finally hit a big prize playing Missouri Lottery scratcher games.

Coffman appeared at a Missouri Lottery press conference Thursday at Casey's General Store. 1301 Business 54 South in Fulton to announce that Coffman had won $50,000 a year for life, which is guaranteed to be $1 million if taken over a lifetime period.

Coffman was given the option of taking either $50,000 a year or a lump sum payment of $750,000 before taxes. He chose the $750,000 lump sum payout.

"I had to check the number several times to make sure I had won. I wanted the big prize of $200,000 a year but this also is big - very big," Coffman said.

A frequent scratchers ticket buyer, Coffman said he always takes the scratcher ticket to his vehicle in the parking lot to determine if he is a winner.

"If I win, I usually will go back in and buy another ticket," he said.
