Last month Emma Trent attained a life-long goal - to skate on the World Team USA.
Not only did 16-year-old Emma compete in the 2011 World Roller Figure Skating Championships, she placed fourth in the world in the Junior World Class Ladies Figures.
"I was taken in shock," Emma related. "I had no idea that I had done so well. It was really exciting."
The Auxvasse teenager skated against 33 other skaters from 25 different countries. Emma said her competitors were great skaters. However, trading secrets with the competition was out of the question.
"It was hard to talk to them, because they spoke different languages," Emma says.
From Nov. 11-21, Emma, her parents and coach were all in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the championships. Emma spent most of her trip with her team. On Nov. 16, Emma skated four figures for her event. She said the judges gave her a total score based off of the average of her four figures. She took fourth behind skaters from Italy, Argentina and Colombia.
