Lady Hornets tennis team continues strong start

The Fulton Lady Hornets tennis team has already tripled last season's win total a little more than a week into the 2011 campaign. Fulton ousted Columbia Independent by a score of 8-1 at home on Tuesday night.

"They played pretty good," Lady Hornets head coach Louis Schnoebelen said after the contest. "They had a slow start with the rain delay, but they stayed sharp despite it and played well.

Here are Tuesday night's singles and doubles results:

•No. 1 singles: senior Jessica Klutts (F) defeated Lea Selby (CI) 8-0; No. 2: Emma Moser (CI) def. sophomore Suzie Whitmar (F) 8-3; No. 3: senior Emily Whitmar (F) def. Nicole Neville (CI) 8-6; No. 4: senior Ashley West (F) def. Elizabeth Birch-Hudson (CI) 8-0; No. 5: senior Ashlee Thompson (F) def. Stefanie Micatka (CI) 8-2; No. 6: junior Emily Barbour (F) def. Sara Somlitsch (CI) 8-2.

•No. 1 doubles: Klutts/S. Whitmar (F) def. Selby/Moser 8-4; No. 2: E.Whitmar/Thompson (F) def. Neville/Micatka 8-1; No. 3: West/Barbour (F) def. Birch-Hudson/Mary Cleavinger (CI) 8-2.

Fulton goes to Moberly for a North Central Missouri Conference match at 4 p.m. Thursday.
