CENTRALIA - Fulton's quest for a third consecutive state playoff appearance has gotten off to a good start. The Lady Hornets notched a 25-19, 25-7 straight-set road win over Centralia in the season opener on Monday.
Junior setter Melissa Hoerber led Fulton with seven kills and 15 assists in the two games. Junior libero Allie Pierce added 10 digs and senior middle hitter Cori Hamilton blocked two shots.
Junior outside hitter Bailey Mitchell had three aces and got on quite the service roll in the second game. Mitchell served 10 straight Lady Hornet points to stretch the Fulton lead and put Centralia away.
"But once we set up our tempo and set plays, we found our success again," Lady Hornets coach Megan Youse said.
Fulton's junior varsity was swept by Centralia 25-19 and 28-26 on Monday.
The Lady Hornets host NCMC opponent Marshall in their home opener on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
