Business, labor to discuss jobs plan

Missouri business and labor leaders will join a conference call today to discuss the importance of approving jobs legislation during next month's special session of the Missouri General Assembly.

Gov. Jay Nixon has called a special session starting Sept. 6 to consider jobs legislation.

Earlier, Ameren Missouri officials had asked the governor to consider adding a proposal allowing consideration of an early site permit for a second reactor at the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant, which would create thousands of construction and permanent jobs in Callaway County. But Nixon decided not to include the nuclear plant measure in his call for a special session.

Instead, he asked the legislature in the special session to move Missouri's presidential primary election to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each presidential election year, permit the transfer of the St. Louis Police Department from state control to city control, and authorize tax credits to attract amateur sporting events in Missouri.
