Despite the economic downturn, 960 students enrolled for the fall semester at the Fulton campus of William Woods University, including 310 freshmen and transfer students.

When classes started Monday, the university welcomed 310 new students from 28 states and seven foreign nations. The foreign students' home countries include Brazil, Canada, China, England, Ireland, Israel and Taiwan.

In the 42 states represented in campus enrollment, the top five states are Missouri, Illinois, California, Texas and Colorado.

Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, WWU president, said the strong retention numbers indicate students are pleased with their decision to attend William Woods.
