New afterschool program set to begin at North Callaway

North Callaway students interested in taking some classes that are a little different than their regular courses will now have the chance.

A new before- and afterschool program will kick off this year for K-12 students enrolled in North Callaway School District. Two locations will serve students in the program - Auxvasse Elementary and North Callaway High School - and the hours of operation will be 7-8 a.m. and 3:15-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. An early September date is the goal for the program's launch.

Superintendent Bryan Thomsen said he's excited about this new step for the district.

"It's going to be a great opportunity for our kids to get some additional educational experience before and after school," Thomsen said.

Some examples of classes that plan to be offered include: Creative writing, robotics, digital photography, culinary arts, guitar lessons, character education, jewelry making, adult education and math core improvement.
