Mo. teachers file lawsuit against social network law

The Missouri State Teachers Association Friday filed suit in Cole County Circuit Court claiming a new Missouri law will violate free speech rights of teachers.

The lawsuit asks the court to issue an injunction blocking enforcement of the relevant part of the law relating to teachers communicating with students using electronic social networking sites.

Kent L. Brown, a Jefferson City attorney representing the statewide teacher organization, said it is not the intention of the lawsuit to block enforcement of the entire law designed to crack down on sexual predators of children but only the part relating to teacher communications with students and former students.
