Though the heat was severe for the first half of the Kingdom of Callaway County Fair, temperatures dipped some by the second half, giving a reprieve to fairgoers and exhibitors. Fair board members say that despite the heat, attendance this year was fairly consistent with previous years.

"I think (the fair) was great even though we had the heat against us and the economy," said Theresa Spencer, fair board treasurer. "I think the people still supported the fair wonderful."

Spencer said final figures on overall attendance and funds earned aren't in yet, but so far it looks like the board matched "almost dollar to dollar" what was made last year.
