Some artists prefer paper. Others may use cloth or a variety of means to capture their art. Those work just fine for Greg Anderson of Fulton, but he's using a different - tougher - surface to bring his art to life and, in this case, to the Kingdom of Callaway County Fair.

Anderson and girlfriend Kristal Johnston are manning a booth on the fairgrounds for the first time, trying to sell Anderson's wood paintings to the masses.

Anderson has been drawing for most of his life and enjoyed it enough that he inevitably thought to make it a career. But there was a catch.

"I was a pretty fair artist in school and I never really found a way for it to pay off," Anderson said. "I was afraid to get into it because I feared that if I made it my job, I wouldn't love it anymore."
