Junior pitcher Kelsey Schulte gave the William Woods University Lady Owls a prod at the plate.
Schulte's two-out, RBI single capped off host William Woods' three-run rally in the top of the sixth inning Thursday to cap off a 3-2 win over Park University in the second game of an AMC doubleheader.
William Woods University was unable to recover from a 6-0 deficit in dropping the opener 8-5 at Owls Field. The Lady Owls are now 24-19 overall and 8-8 in the American Midwest Conference, while Park is 25-15 on the season and 10-6 in conference play.
The Lady Pirates manufactured single runs in the second and fifth to take a 2-0 lead in the nightcap. Freshman shortstop Lindsey LeCuru initiated William Woods' comeback in the sixth when she singled to center with one out.
Freshman second baseman Taylor Lewis then drew a walk, and both she and LeCuru advanced to second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch. Senior center fielder Morgan Parkhurst followed with a double to left, bringing in both LeCuru and Lewis to tie the game.
Parkhurst moved to third on senior designated player Chelsea Loethen's groundout to second and then raced home with what proved to be the winning run on Schulte's single to right.
Parkhurst, Schulte and LeCuru were each 1-for-3 as the Lady Owls made the most of only five hits. Senior third baseman Zoe Brittan was also 1-for-3 with a double.
Schulte (10-7) went the distance to log the victory, giving up two runs - one earned - on seven hits. She struck out three and walked three.
Trailing by six runs in the first game, William Woods closed within 6-2 on Parkhurst's two-run double with one out in the fourth. The Lady Owls then trimmed their deficit to two runs in the sixth on senior catcher Megan Willard's RBI double and sophomore right fielder Ashley DePew's RBI single.
Park, though, pushed its lead to 8-4 after putting up a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. William Woods tacked on its final run when LeCuru homered to right leading off the bottom of the inning. It was her 12th home run of the season.
Parkhurst was 1-for-3 with a run scored as the Lady Owls recorded seven hits. LeCuru went 1-for-4, while Willard finished 1-for-2 and DePew was 1-for-1.
Freshman starter MacKenzie Bowden - battling control issues - lasted just two innings in being pinned with the loss for William Woods. Bowden (11-8) was rocked for six runs - four earned - on just three hits, while issuing six walks and striking out three.
The Lady Owls are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader at Culver-Stockton College at 2 p.m. today.
Wildcats golf team finishes
fourth at Show-Me meet
ELDON - The New Bloomfield boys' golf team amassed a score of 450 to take fourth place at the Show-Me Conference championships Wednesday at Eldon Country Club.
Cameron Baker led the Wildcats by finishing 10th individually with an 88.
Eugene compiled a 335 total to secure the Show-Me team title.
New Bloomfield competes in a quadrangular with Fulton, Eugene and Russellville at 4 p.m. Monday at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton.

SAUGET, Ill. - The Blue Jays watched their three-game winning streak end in Wednesday's SLIAC loss to the Gorloks at GCS Ballpark.
Westminster College (12-14, 7-6 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on run-scoring singles by senior left fielder VJ Reynolds and sophomore right fielder Matt Mallette. Webster got a run back in the second and then took the lead for good by tallying three runs in the third.
The defending SLIAC champion Gorloks (20-8, 13-2) added a pair of runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-2. The Blue Jays cut their deficit to three runs on sophomore designated hitter Kevin Moritz's RBI groundout in the sixth, but Webster countered with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning.
Westminster came up with its final run in the seventh when Moritz reached on a two-out error, allowing senior first baseman Andrew Jett to score from third.
Jett finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored as the Blue Jays - who committed three errors - ended up with seven hits. Reynolds was also 2-for-3.
Westminster sophomore starter Tyler Ten Eyck was tagged with the loss, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits in five innings. Ten Eyck (2-5) struck out four and walked two.
The Blue Jays are scheduled to open a three-game SLIAC home series against Blackburn (Ill.) College with a nine-inning game at Saucier Field at 6 tonight. The two teams will then play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Westminster tennis teams
lose twice to Missouri Valley
The host Blue Jays - defending champion and top seed for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team tournament April 30 - were shut out for the first time this season on Wednesday.
The 9-0 setback to the Vikings left Westminster College at 9-5 overall.
Meanwhile, freshman Kristen Fisher posted the lone win, at No. 6 singles, for the Lady Blue Jays (7-6) in their 8-1 loss to the Lady Vikings on Wednesday.
