Lady Hornets soccer team stays perfect

Kati Wallace is about as delighted as a coach can be with her Fulton Lady Hornets soccer team's impressive start.

Sophomore midfielder Adrienne Ebersole scored two goals and assisted on another Friday night as Fulton remained undefeated with a 5-0 North Central Missouri Conference victory over Boonville.

The Lady Hornets moved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NCMC with the convincing win. They have thoroughly throttled their opponents so far this season, outscoring them by a combined 23-0.

"It's really sinking in with the girls that we've got just a solid, solid team all the way around," Wallace said. "It's really fun watching them from the sidelines - seeing them work on things in practice and then implementing them in the game."

After sophomore midfielder Rachelle Miller scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jenny McCarty in the 11th minute of the first half, Ebersole tallied her first goal off an assist from junior forward Lola Weiss in the 22nd minute.

Ebersole answered again with another goal in the 25th minute, with McCarty picking up the assist, to send Fulton into the break with a 3-0 advantage.

Senior midfielder Kara Henry added to the Lady Hornets' lead when she dribbled in and ripped off an unassisted goal in the 15th minute of the second half. Ebersole then set up McCarty for Fulton's last goal in the 24th minute.

The Lady Hornets battered Boonville with 27 shots on goal and had nine corner kicks.

"I can't emphasize enough the team unity; if you look at the stats, it's across the entire team," Wallace said. "Players are calling for passes and they're looking to see who's open, on all kinds of combination plays."

Senior Liz Foreman - who has been in goal for all five of Fulton's shutouts - was barely bothered Friday night. Foreman made one save as the Lady Pirates managed just five shots, including one corner kick.

Junior sweeper Rebecca Revak, sophomore stopper Anna Fink, senior left back Courtney Johnson and senior right back Brie Rohe provide the defensive buffer in front of Foreman. Junior Bianca Gomez filled in for Johnson on Friday night.

"(The defense) is solid as a rock," Wallace said. "We have speed in the back, they really read the game and they get themselves organized."

The Lady Hornets (1-2) dropped the junior varsity game 1-0.

Fulton returns home for an NCMC contest against Kirksville at 5 p.m. Monday at Morgan Soccer Complex. The junior varsity game will be played first.
