William Woods University freshman forward Joao Paulo Dutra Parra delivered three first-half goals Tuesday night to lift the Owls soccer team to a 3-2 win over William Penn University.
Parra - who scored earlier in the 10th and 22nd minutes - broke a 2-2 tie with his third goal in the 43rd minute to put William Woods (10-6-1) in front to stay. Parra now has seven goals this season.
Senior goalkeeper Cory Herchenroeder recorded three saves to earn the victory for the Owls, who outshot William Penn 17-9.
William Woods ends the regular season with an American Midwest Conference match at Williams Baptist (Ark.) College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

ST. LOUIS - Junior forward Anne Weaver tallied two goals and sophomore goalkeeper Anna Hatfield posted the shutout Tuesday night as the Lady Owls closed out the regular season with the AMC victory.
Junior midfielder Kristen Pelley added the other goal for William Woods University, which improved to 7-8-2 on the season and finished at 4-5-1 in the American Midwest Conference. Pelley leads the Lady Owls with eight goals on the season, while Weaver has seven.
Hatfield posted nine saves as William Woods logged its sixth shutout of the season.
The Lady Owls will compete in the quarterfinals of the AMC postseason tournament on Nov. 5. The tournament bracket has not been announced.

The host Blue Jays were eliminated from contention for the SLIAC postseason tournament after Tuesday night's shutout loss to the Panthers.
Senior goalkeeper Taylor Webb posted five saves for Westminster College, which dropped to 11-6-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Principia is now 8-6-1 overall and 5-1-2 in the SLIAC.
The Blue Jays finish their season with a conference match at MacMurray (Ill.) College at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The host Lady Blue Jays tumbled to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the SLIAC after Tuesday night's loss to the first-place Lady Panthers.
Westminster College avoided the shutout on freshman forward Sarah Ogar's goal in the 61st minute. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Howe tallied six saves.
The Lady Blue Jays end the season with a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at MacMurray (Ill.) College at noon Saturday.

COLUMBIA - The Lady Blue Jays suffered a non-conference loss to the Stars (18-14) for the second time in four days, bowing 25-20, 25-14 and 27-25 on Tuesday night.
Sophomore outside hitter Molly Owens paced Westminster College (10-16) with seven kills, followed by sophomore outside hitter Alex Berry with five. Senior setter Erin Rustemeyer chipped in with 16 assists and freshman defensive specialist Megan Boschert contributed 14 digs.
The Lady Blue Jays host St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches against Principia (Ill.) College (10 a.m.) and Greenville (Ill.) College (2 p.m.) on Saturday in the Westminster triangular.

AMC cross country honor
William Woods University's Cheryl Held has been named the American Midwest Conference women's cross country runner of the week.
Held - a junior from Wildwood - received the honor after coming in 10th in 19 minutes, 14 seconds at the Graceland (Iowa) University Invitational last Saturday. She finished fourth out of all NAIA runners at the meet.
