Westminster can't rally in season-ending home loss

The Blue Jays dropped their season-finale to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opponent St. Scholastica 34-28 at Priest Field on Saturday. Westminster (5-5, 3-3 UMAC) were outgained 345-321 by the visiting Saints (7-3, 5-2 UMAC) as they were unable to end the season on a three-game winning streak.

Freshman quarterback Scott Rodgers and senior signal caller Dan Franklyn combined to complete 13-of-28 passes for 243 and two touchdown passes. St. Scholastica took a 7-6 lead on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Alex Thiry to Don Anderson in the first quarter and never relinquished that advantage.

A touchdown run by Blue Jays sophomore running back Chris Starkey brought Westminster to within one point but a late touchdown pass by St. Scholastica put the Saints in front for good. Starkey ran for two touchdowns and 48 yards on the ground while junior receiver Carl Givens caught eight passes for 164 yards and a score.

LEAVENWORTH, Kan.,-William Woods ran its record to 6-0 on the season with a road win at the University of St. Mary on Saturday in the University of St. Mary Classic. Senior guard Rachel Baker was one of three Owls scorers in double figures with 15 points, including a 5-of-6 performance from the free throw line. Junior forward Miranda Loesch dropped in 13 points and junior center Jordan Floyd added 12 for William Woods, who shot 44 percent as a team.

The No. 16 ranked Owls started the weekend with a 71-63 victory over Johnson and Wales on Friday. Baker had 16 points to lead the team junior guard Sharron Andrews scoring 11 and senior forward Jestine Gerber adding ten points of her own.

The Owls play at cross-town rival Westminter College tonight at 6 p.m.

MCKENZIE, Tenn.,-Freshman guard Jonathon Nutt and sophomore guard Kelsey Bardell each had a team-high nine points for the Owls (0-5) against Martin Methodist on Saturday. Junior forward Adam Otto had four rebounds for William Woods, who shot 37 percent from the field as a team. The Owls will host Cenral Methodist tonight at 6 p.m. at Anderson Arena
