The William Woods University Lady Owls soccer team used two first-half goals to beat Hannibal-LaGrange 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament at Firley Field on Friday.
Junior forward Kelsey Sanders scored the first goal in the 22nd minute off an assist from junior forward Anne Weaver.
Weaver got in on the scoring in the 36th minute when she was taken down with the ball while she was in the box and then converted the penalty kick.
Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Hatfield saved four shots for No. 4 seed William Woods to preserve the shutout. No. 5 Hannibal-LaGrange ended its season with a 7-7-3 record.
The Lady Owls (8-8-2) travel to top-seeded McKendree (Ill.) University for a semifinal match at 6 p.m. n Monday.

FAYETTE - The No. 16 Lady Owls raised their season record to 2-0 with Friday night's win over Culver-Stockton in the first round of the Central Methodist University Classic.
William Woods University held Culver-Stockton to 36-percent shooting and owned a 41-34 rebounding edge.
The Lady Owls - who led 39-29 at halftime - shot 40 percent from the field. William Woods received a team-high 16 points from senior forward Jestine Gerber, who was one of three players to score in double figures. Senior forward Rachel Baker scored 15 points and junior guard Sharron Andrews added 10.
William Woods continued tournament play against host Central Methodist late Saturday afternoon. Results were not available at press time.

COLUMBIA - The Lady Owls ended their regular season with a sweep of American Midwest Conference rival Stephens College on Thursday night. William Woods University prevailed by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-18.
Junior middle blocker Lauren Fleming led the Lady Owls with 10 kills and three blocks, while sophomore blocker Alicia Green contributed eight kills. Senior hitter Brianna Rodriguez topped William Woods with 14 digs and had three aces, while sophomore setter Amanda Henley also contributed three aces and 12 digs.
Freshman setter Sarah Wehmeyer had 16 assists and sophomore setter Emily Nolte chipped in with 12 for the Lady Owls (16-19, 8-8 AMC). William Woods will be the fifth seed in the AMC postseason tournament, which starts next weekend.

The host Lady Blue Jays finished the regular season with a 12-18 record after Thursday night's 25-18, 25-14 and 25-23 non-conference triumph.
Sophomore outside hitter Molly Owens directed Westminster College with 14 kills, followed by sophomore middle hitter Audrey Sharp with seven. Senior setter Erin Rustemeyer had 26 assists, while sophomore outside hitter Alex Berry and senior setter Sarah Todd each had nine digs. Senior libero Danielle Bazan supplied eight digs.
The Lady Blue Jays played Webster University late Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament in Greenville, Ill. Results were not available at press time.

MOKANE - The Bulldogs had a 21-17 halftime lead before pulling away in the second half for its first victory Thursday night.
Luke Horstman guided South Callaway Middle School (1-1) with 15 points and Cory Hanger tallied nine.
The Bulldogs (1-1) prevailed in the "B" game 23-18. Brandon Ward finished with a team-high seven points and Mason Shoemaker contributed six.
