Lady Hornets' fourth-quarter rally falls short in Eldon loss

The Fulton Lady Hornets were unable to close out a fourth-quarter comeback in Tuesday night's 49-42 loss to Eldon at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Fulton trailed 34-23 going into the final period and outscored Eldon 19-15 over the final 8 minutes, but were unable to overtake the Lady Mustangs.

The loss was the second straight for the Lady Hornets, who slipped to the .500 mark at 4-4.

"If we worked like we did the last few minutes, the game would have been closer," Fulton assistant coach Ashley Windmiller said.

Junior guard Corri Hamilton led the Lady Hornets with a game-high 16 points and junior guard Rachel Washington contributed nine. Hamilton, senior forward Liz Foreman and sophomore guard Bailey Mitchell all fouled out in the fourth quarter.

"(Eldon) was back in a real tight zone (defense) and we had trouble getting the ball in the middle," Windmiller said. "They were really quick and we were sluggish coming down the court at times."

Kelsi Mueller paced the Lady Mustangs with 15 points, while Jordyn Schmidt and Megan Humphrey provided 10 apiece.

Fulton hosts a North Central Missouri Conference matchup against Hannibal at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3.
