Fulton area residents now have a new option when deciding where to go for the night.

Friday night, The Grill is hosting the grand opening for its new downstairs bar, The 19th Hole, and members of management said they are looking forward to residents' reactions.

"I think we just have a different atmosphere," said John Houf, manager and part owner of the establishment.

He said the decision to create a bar in the restaurant's downstairs banquet area came after some of the renovations that were made when The Grill was re-opened in June.

"We put in a permanent bar down there because it was a little bit more convenient as far as catering," Houf said, noting the space already has started to draw in customers in the evenings, especially for Monday Night Football games. "Downstairs is a little bit different atmosphere, it's more relaxed. (With The Grill upstairs) it's just kind of two different atmospheres catering to two different groups of people.

"I'm looking forward to having people down there, to see their reactions. I think people are really going to like it."

Starting at 9 p.m. and running until 1 a.m., Friday night's grand opening will feature music by DJ Rice, drink specials and door prizes. There will be a $10 cover charge for the event.

Although The Grill will continue to host catered events and banquets downstairs - the space already is booked for the rest of December with holiday parties - Houf said Friday's bash will not be the last big event to draw crowds to the new nightspot.

"We've discussed hiring comedians to come down here, or karaoke, we're talking about different special events we can have," Houf said. "Hopefully we can give people in Fulton a different change of scenery, different types of entertainment."

Over the winter, the 19th Hole will be open nightly from 7 p.m. until late night. Except for special events, there is no cover charge.
