ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis man who drove his car into a protest last year was placed on one year of probation after pleading guilty to three misdemeanors.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported 60-year-old Mark Calao pleaded guilty Thursday.
Authorities said Colao drove his car through protesters who were in a street in the city's Grove neighborhood last August. The protest was being held after a nearby vigil to honor Kenny Herring, a transgender woman fatally shot by St. Louis police the day before the vigil.
Police have said Herring was shot after stabbing a man and attacking an officer with a knife.
Colao's attorney said his client was scared and made poor decisions and "should have made a U-turn" instead of driving into the crowd.
