A motorcyclist was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia Wednesday morning after colliding with a Missouri Department of Transportation vehicle on U.S. 54.

The motorcycle operator, Helen Doss, 66, of St. James, sustained serious injuries after rear-ending a MoDOT vehicle. Doss was ejected from her motorcycle upon collision, per a Missouri Highway Patrol crash report.

According to the Highway Patrol, they received a call at approximately 9 a.m. about an accident eastbound on U.S. 54 near the Route HH interchange. Both eastbound lanes were closed during the incident.

Doss was airlifted by Missouri University Air Care. Her injury status following the crash is still unknown, according to a patrol spokesperson.

"As of (this morning) we have no indication of a fatality in the accident," patrol Sgt. Scott White said.

Because the crash involved a MoDOT vehicle, White stated patrol reconstructionists were assigned to the scene to have a further analysis of the crash. The eastbound lanes were reopened as of 9:54 a.m.
