FPD announces speeding crackdown

Following resident concerns, Fulton Police Chief Steve Myers is promising an increase to traffic law enforcement.

Myers said the police department has put an additional officer on daytime traffic duty. The officer will be working to improve enforcement all over town, rather than in a particular area.

"They're working overtime," he said.

Increased enforcement began Monday.

"It'll be a couple of weeks before we can determine if we're actually getting people to slow down," Myers said.

The beginning of summer factored in to the decision, Myers added. Summer school has begun and school zone speed limits are in effect near school buildings.

"We have more kids out there on bikes and running around," he said.

Myers said Fulton residents are encouraged to tip off the police department about speeder hot spots.

"Let us know," he said. "We can't be everywhere, but we'll certainly address the issue in that area."

The FPD's non-emergency number is 573-592-3100.
