Three men indicted for offenses against children

Three men have been indicted by a Callaway County grand jury for sex offenses including crimes against children, according to the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, Jarrad Vandergrift, 37, of New Bloomfield, was indicted, charged with multiple felony offenses to include three counts of child molestation, three counts of statutory sodomy, and statutory rape. Callaway County deputies arrested Vandergrift near New Bloomfield and transported him to the Callaway County Jail. Vandergrift remains in custody without bond, per judge's order.

Two more were indicted May 2, including:

  • Tommy Smith Jr., 34, of Jefferson City. Charges include three felony counts of first-degree statutory rape and three felony counts of first-degree statutory sodomy. Deputies arrested Smith in Jefferson City and transported him to the Callaway County Jail where he remains in custody without bond, per judge's order.
  • Marvin Ridgel, 48, of New Bloomfield. Charges include two felony counts of first-degree statutory rape. Deputies arrested Ridgel in Fulton and transported him to the Callaway County Jail. Ridgel is being held on $50,000 bond.

Charges for all three men come from results of investigations by Callaway County Sheriff's officials.
