A Jefferson City man was arrested Monday in connection with a church burglary in Callaway County.

Valrey Johnson, 25, was charged Monday with felony offenses of burglary and stealing, Sheriff Clay Chism said. He was placed in the Callaway County Jail on a court-set bond of $10,000.

Callaway County deputies initially responded at 6:29 a.m. Monday to the 3600 block of Route E in Hatton for a suspicious person complaint. Deputies did not immediately locate the subject; however, they discovered a Hatton church had recently been burglarized.

As deputies continued searching the area, they located Johnson and identified him as the subject after finding him in possession of stolen property from the church.

Johnson was arrested and transported to the Callaway County Jail.

The Missouri Highway Patrol assisted deputies in Hatton.
