Suspects sought in Jan. 6 murder

Law enforcement officers continue to hunt for two people charged in a Jan. 6 murder, according to Callaway County Sheriff's Office officials.

Deputies continue searching for Ruben Corales Cabrera, 33, and Emily Ricketts, 22, both of Indianapolis, Indiana. They were each charged Jan. 11 with first-degree murder by the Callaway County prosecutor's office. Cabrera also is charged with armed criminal action.

"They are still wanted. We are working with several different agencies in an attempt to locate them," Sheriff Clay Chism said Tuesday. "Although charges have been filed, the investigation is still extremely active and sheriff's office investigators continue to follow leads and prepare the case for transfer to the prosecuting attorney."

Charges stem from the murder of Lauro Garza-Perez on Jan. 6 in the 1500 block of Old Missouri 40, near the Boone County line.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Cabrera or Ricketts should contact law enforcement immediately and not approach either subject. Information can be provided anonymously by contacting Callaway County Crimestoppers at 573-592-2474 or callawaysheriff.org/crime-stoppers.

Officials said both suspects have ties to the Columbia area and are considered armed and dangerous.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office is joined in the investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office, the Columbia Police Department, the Indianapolis, Indiana Police Department, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
