Man charged in injuries of corrections officers

An Illinois man has been charged with felonies following the assault of a corrections officer in the Callaway County Jail, sheriff department's Lt. Curtis Hall said.

Shaun Rose, 31, of East St. Louis, Illinois, has been given third- and fourth-degree assault charged following the Jan. 27 incident at the jail. Hall stated Rose had been transferred there from the Missouri Department of Corrections for a pending court hearing at the Callaway County Courthouse on Jan. 28.

" Two corrections officers were attempting to escort Rose within the jail when Rose vigorously attacked the officers," Hall stated in a press release. "One of the officers was transported to a local hospital, treated for injuries sustained during the attack, and later released."

Rose has since been returned to the Missouri Department of Corrections, Hall added.

According to Case.net Rose's other pending criminal case in Callaway County involves a felony assault that occurred at the Missouri Department of Corrections' Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center on July 9, 2016. Rose also has a previous felony assault conviction in St. Francois County on April 20.

Also, a Fulton man was arrested on a felony warrant Thursday evening.

Hall said Charles Bentley, 55, was arrested during an investigation in the 3000 block of Hilltop Drive in Fulton. On Jan. 23, the Callaway County Circuit Court issued a felony warrant for Bentley's arrest for probation violation on the original charge of felony assault.

When deputies took Bentley into custody, they found him to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, Hall said.

Bentley was transported to the Callaway County Jail where he remains incarcerated on a court-set, cash-only bond of $10,000.
