The 2019 Leadership Callaway reached the end of their journey Thursday.

"They did very well, learned a lot about Callaway County and met all the class requirements," Callaway Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tamara Tateosian said. "This has been an exceptional group."

Leadership Callaway is a 10-month program offered by the Callaway Chamber of Commerce. It gives participants a peep into the county's needs and challenges, while also highlighting its strengths and potential for growth and economic development. Sessions will cover topics such as health care, history, law enforcement, local and state government and education.

"I've learned Fulton is a diamond-in-the-rough type place," participant Devin Johnson said. "There are lots of aspects people don't see."

Participants also plan and complete a project to improve the community. This year's graduates are planning a cookout at Memorial Park April 26 for first responders.

"After going and meeting the local (first responders), we felt they were under-appreciated," participant Ashly Moore said. "We wanted to do something to give back."

Robert Boone added the class admired the Emergency Medical Services, firefighters and law enforcement for their leadership.

"That's what this class is about: identifying and incorporating those leadership qualities," he said.

The 2018 class repainted the basketball court in Veterans Park.

Applications for the 2020 Leadership Callaway class are open now until June 24. Visit the Callaway Chamber of Commerce or call 573-642-3055 to learn more.
