Fulton elects Cannell as mayor

On Tuesday, Fulton elected a new mayor, Lowe Cannell, and several new City Council persons.

In Fulton's race for mayor, Cannell received 475 votes and Mike West received 322 votes. Results did not specify write-in vote totals for Steve Moore. Total votes cast in this race were 899.

Robert Sterner, running unopposed for Fulton city prosecuting attorney, received 807 votes out of 812 votes cast.

In Fulton city Ward 1, Valerie Sebacher received 171 votes and Andrew Huey received 147 votes. There were 319 total votes cast.

"I'm so excited and ready to get started," Sebacher said. "I'm really proud of the people in my ward; it looks like there was a good turnout."

In Fulton city Ward 2, Jeffrey Stone, an incumbent candidate running unopposed, received 101 of 101 votes. Lindsey Pace-Snook in Ward 3 (unopposed) received 208 of 212 votes, and Rick Shiverdecker in Ward 4 (unopposed) received 188 of 195 votes.

"We did it," Cannell said upon learning of his win. "We thought we had it, but it was nerve wracking."

Cannell comes to his new position as mayor with eight years of City Council person experience. He last served on the Fulton City Council two years ago.

The swearing in ceremony for winners will be at the next Fulton City Council meeting, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"First of all, I want to thank everyone who helped on the campaign; I really appreciate everyone's help," Cannell said. "We get sworn in in a week and will dig in and start the work of the people."

He also thanked his competitors Moore and West for running clean campaigns.

"Steve and Mike were gracious and we will work together in the future," Cannell said. "We had fun."

He said he will spend the next few days shadowing outgoing Mayor LeRoy Benton and picking his brain.
