MAFCE members meet; new officers named

The 82nd annual Missouri Association for Family and Community Education (MAFCE) was attended by Fulton FCE members Aug. 27-29 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Members who attended were club President Kathryn Wade, Secretary Anna Klick, Carolyn McCormack and Dana Harris, along with 40 other members from six districts and nine guests.

The theme for the conference was, "Find Joy in the Journey." Workshops were on topics including Opiods (Dr. Scott Kirkley, internal medicine), Hunger and Its Impact in the U.S. and Missouri (William McKelvey, project coordinator UMC, Telling Your Story (John Fuller, University Extension HES, Butler County), and International South Korea (Daniel Elliott, missionary).

Monday night early bird sessions were hands-on activities: Patricia's Project, June Romine; doll making, Georgia Reid and Mary Beatty; and Paper Birds Project, Lynn Maples. At Tuesday's business meeting, officials were elected: 2019 Secretary Georgia Reid, Treasurer Judy Strickland and President Dana Harris. Callaway County and Fulton FCE won a Red Level Award for their county achievement report. Anna Klick won a table decoration.

Tuesday afternoon, awards were given in education, leadership and action in districts and local clubs. This was followed by reports from National FCE President Lynn Maples and NAFCE Vice President of Programs Betty Shalk. During lunch, Coins for Friendship were collected for ACWW water project.

At Tuesday evening's banquet, Kathy Dothage from UMC welcomed members. Guest speaker was Ashley Woolard. Dana Harris received her first jewel on her MAFCE oak pin for her donations to Missouri Foundation for Family and Community Education (MFFCE) and received a certificate for her 30 years with formerly Missouri Homemakers Extension and now MAFCE. Auctioneer Greg Sellers helped raise $1,155 at their live auction. Other funds for the conference were raised through the country store, silent auction and 50/50 drawing.
